Francis Cotton
Case study
Before her stroke in 2006 at the age of 69 Frances Cotton was a lively sociable person who enjoyed playing golf. The stroke left her with the communication disability aphasia and weakness down one side of her body. Like so many other stroke survivors, he self confidence was shattered and she found it increasingly difficult to leave the house.
With our support and a great deal of personal determination, Frances has made remarkable progress in coping with her communication and mobility difficulties. Her latest venture is doing a course in computing.
"Through all of my problems the best this that has ever happened to me was the visit from Jo, The Stroke Association's Communication Support Co-ordinator. I look forward to the group meetings and when I started getting out of my wheelchair with the aid of my stick and sitting down at the table, I was so proud of myself. I still cannot walk but I am getting along fine. I cannot thanks Jo or Kathy, the family and carer support Co-ordinator enough for all the help they have given me."
