Anna Corr

Case study

Anna Corr was on holiday celebrating her 32nd birthday when she had a stroke. It changed her life overnight, leaving her with the communications disability aphasia and slight paralysis to the right side of her body. Before her stroke, Anna worked as a research nurse and it was a tremendous knock to her confidence when she was medically retired from the profession she loved.

Since April 2008 when Anna joined our Northern Ireland Newtownabbey Conversation group and also received support from our Family Support Service, she has made incredible progress in regaining her confidence and communication skills.

"If I could describe the first five years since my stroke it would be like I was treading water and I had to remind myself to breath in and out. But since discovering The Stroke Association Northern Ireland, I have been given armbands! My role is exciting and I feel very fulfilled." Anna Corr, stroke survivor
